Can I use mtG-CAPRI to dial-up into Internet?
This is possible only, if your access program is based on the CAPI2.0 interface.
The dial-up connection of Windows® and also modem emulations (AVM® CAPI-Port,
etc.), as well as NDIS-WAN drivers are not based on the CAPI2.0 interface
but they use the device driver interface of the card driver (CAPI.VXD).
This situation may change in future, because virtual device drivers will not be
supported anymore within WindowsXP®. Even today if you configure the COM port
emulator cFos with parameter -v0, it will use the CAPI2.0 interface and will
work with mtG-CAPRI.
On Linux and WindowsNT® 4.0/2000/XP, the routing functionality is already part
of the system.
Can I use mtG-CAPRI to make Internet-Access available to other users in the same network?
With mtG-CAPRI you cannot
set up an Internet-Gateway in your network. Under Linux and WindowsNT® 4.0/2000/XP,
the Routing functionality is already part of the system.
mtG-CAPRI makes the CAPI2.0 interface of the ISDN-board on the server available
to all mtG-CAPRI Clients within the network. On computers with mtG-CAPRI Client installed,
you can run applications based on the CAPI2.0 interface, like the AVM® Fritz!32® package,
the T-Online-Decoder, or finance software, for example Intuit® Quicken®.
Please pay attention to the licence aggreemants of the corresponding
software manufacturers in each case.
With the Freeware Version, at most 2 applications can set-up a connection simultaneously.
An ISDN-S0-Connection (basic connection) of the Deutsche Telekom provides 2 64kbit/s ISDN B-channels.
If you use an access software based on the CAPI2.0 (DLL), you can immediately dial-up
into the internet from each mtG-CAPRI Client. Each of these connections is autonomous and payable.
Please pay attention to the contracts of the Internet Service Provider which usually
exclude the use of the internet connection with more than one PC!
Can I use the Remote Service of the mtG-CAPRI on a computer in parallel with
local ISDN-Card and local CAPI-Application?
No, it is not possible, since local and remote CAPI applications
require different program libraries (dll-Files).

How do I test whether the mtG-CAPRI Server was installed correctly under Windows?
In order to check whether the mtG-CAPRI-Server was installed properly and running correctly,
please do as follows before:
Double-click on the mtG-Servermanager icon in the Windows systray, located below right in the screen,
beside the clock. Notice that the licensed number of B-Channels is shown and reported as inactive.
Open a DOS-window, MS-DOS prompt, and type
telnet localhost 20000
The blank window appearing as a result should not show any error-message of the type: "No connection".
You can close the window through the key-combination ALT-F4 again.
For the configuration of the mtG-CAPRI Servers, please refer to the installation
in the system administrators guide.
How do I test whether the mtG-CAPRI Client was installed correctly?
In order to check whether the mtG-CAPRI Client was installed correctly, please proceed as follows:
Execute the test programs, caprit16.exe and caprit32.exe.
You can find hints for these progrmas in the system administrators guide.
If an error occurs, please open a DOS-window, MS-DOS prompt, and type
ping [servername]
with "server-name" replaced by the name of your mtG-CAPRI Server.
If an error message appears ("Request timeout"), the PC has no TCP/IP connection to the mtG-CAPRI Server.
Check your network-configuration, please. Particularly, you should keep an eye in the file
C:\WINDOWS\hosts
on the client in an entry that assigns an IP-Address to the name of the mtG-CAPRI Servers.
Please, take the format for the content of a hosts file from the file
C:\WINDOWS\hosts.sam
If the PING command was successful ("Reply from..."),
please execute the following command in a DOS-window:
telnet [servername] 20000
A blank window should appear without any error message.
If an error occurs, the mtG-CAPRI Server does not run, or is not installed correctly.
Then, please, first follow the instructions in the chapter:
How do I test whether the mtG-CAPRI-Server was installed correctly?
For the configuration of the mtG-CAPRI Clients,
please refer to the system administrators guide.
What do I have to consider while configuring of mtG-CAPRI?
Your user name used to login to the Mircosoft network must not contain any space.
The same is applied to the corresponding entries in the file capri.aut on the mtG-CAPRI server.
If the directories where mtG-CAPRI Server or Client are installed contain any space in their names,
you must enclose these directory names in double quotation marks ("...") within in the configuration files
(capri.cfg and/or capri.ini).
mtG-CAPRI uses port 20000 for the communication between the mtG-CAPRI Server and Client.
There must be no conflict with other applications on your systems. As we know, "useradmin"
of the package "webadmin" uses port 20000 as well. In such a case you have to configure
mtG-CAPRI or the other application to not using port 20000. To configure mtG-CAPRI to not
using port 20000 change the port number within the file capri.aut on the server to 20001
for example and on all clients within the file capri.ini.
When I start the mtG-CAPRI Server I get the error message "License
for Number Of local B-Channels to low". Can I run mtG-CAPRI anyway?
Your server offers more than 3 B-channels. If you want to run mtG-CAPRI
you have to buy a licence depending on the number of available B-channels.
Is it possible to configure mtG-CAPRI using 3 B-channels only in order
to use the freeware version although the server offers more than 3 B-channles?
No.
What is the format of user names within the file "capri.aut"?
The user names have to be written in capital letters and must not include any blanks.
Error messages of CAPI applications when used with mtG-CAPRI
The error messages of CAPI applications, like Fritz!Fax, etc, are provided by the manufacturers
for the case that an ISDN-Board is locally installed in the computer.
These error messages often mislead while using mtG-CAPRI.
Examples:
The error message "Drivers for CAPI 2.0 not installed" means
that the mtG-CAPRI Client is not able to connect to the server.
The reason may be an interrupted network connection or the server is down.
If the servers name is written incorrectly on the client,
the following error message may occur:
"Result of connection establishment: The CAPI driver necessary for the ISDN running is missing or..."
With such "cryptic" messages it is therefore recommended:
- first, run the test programs on the client, in order to see
whether the client can connect to the mtG-CAPRI Server, or
- check the trace file on the server. This gives information about problems
like "unauthorised users", "no free B-channel", "requested channel not available", etc.
Problems with mtG-CAPRI Clients running on Windows® NT®
Several applications like Microsoft® Word® start a extra thread for printing
which is registered with the user name "SYSTEM".
If for example a Fax program is now started from Word® using the printing job,
the CAPI application becomes the user "SYSTEM", which is normally not registered on the server.
Then, the mtG-CAPRI Service is rejected; the transfer of the fax fails.
In the log file on the mtG-CAPRI Server, an authentication error will appear.
Solution:
Call the Fax program (or the fax-journal) once again directly.
The fax should be located under the directory "to send" in the queue and it is now sent.
Of course, you can also register the user "SYSTEM" on the server
with very few rights, e.g. it is only able to make outgoing calls fpr the service "fax23".
However, this is not recommended since you do not know which real person uses this service
and possibly also opens a security gap.
Problems with mtG-CAPRI Server running on Linux
In very rare combinations of kernel version and glibc version an error message
is written to the file "capri.trc" permanently on the server. As a result
the partition or hard disk will run out of space very quickly. For a stable
operation it is recommended to set the parameter "TRACELEVEL" to 0 within
the file "capri.cfg" on the server ("TRACELEVEL=0"). The information written
to "capri.trc" is of interest for developers only and the trace level can later be
increased temporarily if nessecary. All importent information for the daily
operation can be found within the file "caprilog.txt".
I cannot establish a connection with mtG-CAPRI. Within the file "caprilog.txt"
on the server there is the following error message: "Protocol error layer 1 (broken line
or B-channel removed by signalling protocol)". What does this mean?
Supposably you are using an ISDN telephone system which requires the MSN set correctly for outgiong calls.
Insert the right MSN or extension number into the configuration of all applications you want to use with mtG-CAPRI.
I cannot establish a connection with mtG-CAPRI. Within the file "capri.trc"
on the server there is the following error message: "Illegal controller number ...".
What does this mean?
You have made a mistake while editing the file "capri.aut" on the server: After the line
[OWN_NUMBERS] must appear a line with "1" as content (see example "MANFRED").
This entry indicates the board number of the ISDN-Board you use, and if you have
only one board, "1" will be correct.
If you have more than one ISDN-Boards installed in the server, change "1" to the number
of the board the user should use. The number of the first board is "1".
When I start the mtG-CAPRI Server the following error message is displayed:
"Error while getting number of B channels. CAPRI Server is not running" What is wrong?
The reason is an error of libcapi20 within the ISDN4Linux package. Please use the corrected version
which you can download here.
